ASUS ROG Phone 5 Review – Complete Details

Hello! Welcome back to us. Today we are here with an ultimate level gaming phone, the ASUS ROG Phone 5. We are going to tell our consumers about our experience with the phone.

ASUS is multinational and a very well-established brand that deals in computer hardware and phone hardware. The company used to make mobile phones at reasonable prices starting from 15k. But recently the company launched its ROG phone series. This series has changed the face of gaming phones in the market and set all its competitors behind in just a few weeks. The first Phone of the series was the ASUS ROG Phone 5. The starting processor of these phones was Snapdragon 845.

The successor of this phone was ROG Phone II with snapdragon 865. ASUS made high-performance gaming phones back to back. Unsurprisingly, the ROG Phone III was with the snapdragon 865 plus chipset.

But now this time the ROG phone 5 comes with the fastest chipset processor that is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 with a minimum of 8 GB of Ram and optionally available at 18 GB of RAM.

Now let’s discuss our experience with phones. But first check out the basic specifications table:

We have divided the review to some categories:

  1. Design
  2. Display
  3. Cameras
  4. Performance
  5. Battery Life
  6. Additional features

What about the Design of the Phone?

Let’s start the review with its box first. The box itself gives the great feel and feedback. It definitely feels premium. The box contains the documentation, sim tray opener tool, a hard protective case,  30 W charging adapter with its type C to type C cable, and mainly the ASUS ROG Phone 5.

The phone in-hand feels extremely premium and breathtaking. There are a few front bezels. On the back side the camera bump is not too high, it is just adequate. The back of the phone is smooth in finish. On the left mid bottom side there is a dot mesh design with a RGB illuminated logo of ROG. Higher variants of this phone has an extra small screen on back above the ROG logo which shows some info also. The back of the phone is a glass back. So the users may need to buy a silicon back cover for better protection.

The phone also  supports air trigger buttons for better gaming experience on the right side with the power button and volume rockers. Type C charging jack is on below the phone but amazingly asus has given the C port on the left side of the phone so the cable will not interrupt the gamers. Forgotten 3.5mm  audio jack is also given in this phone. All total design does not let down this phone in any terms, now lets see other factors.

How is the Display?

The ROG Phone 5  display is a 6.78-inch, Full HD+ E4 AMOLED panel from Samsung with the refresh rate of  144Hz supported with a brightness level of 800 nits.

As Amoled display never lacks in anything so as with this. No such complaints about the display. It is crisp and clear. Touch is extremely responsive. Feels smoothest of all. The display supports changing of refresh rate, it does not lock on 144 hz it can be changed between 60, 120 and 144 hz. Phone is also supported with always on display. That’s all about the display.

Are cameras good?

See, this is a gaming phone so users should not expect an extremely high quality camera, eve  the company has also announced that their main focus was on performance, not on cameras. But still it is offered with a  64MP camera at the back with Sony IMX686 sensors. Followed by the 13 Mp wide angle and a 5 Mp macro lens camera. This combo offers great picture quality but yes deep down we know the camera is downgraded according to ROG phone 3.

The selfies clicked by a 24 MP front camera seems to be reasonably good with actual color skin tone, but yes we need to rely on front flash.

But the most disappointing thing is the night photos. Shots taken at night do not have any details. So it is better to use another phone for night shots.

Do we need to worry about Performance?

No, not at all. The performance standards are upto mark. The phone is powered by the fastest mobile phone processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. It is a 5g processor. The Combination of processor and Ram makes the phone worth it and this phone got the DDR6 RAM starting at 8 GB till 18 Gb on optional variants. Not only this the storage is 128GB of UFS 3.1. During our test we faced not even a single frame lags or slutter on the phone. We played games with Ultra high and high graphic settings according to their availability. Most amazingly the frame rates are surprisable.

Games like Genshin impact and Call Of Duty were running effortlessly on this phone as these are the most graphics demanding android games.

The OS of the phone supports less bugs and no ads in it, which add more plus points to gaming experience and performance.

But what is most helpful in multiplayer or fighting games is those air triggers. These are a serious  boon to gaming experience. This all well packed combo of display, processor and ram feels adequately perfect for a gaming phone in the market. It gives a proper neck to neck competition to its competitors especially in gaming.

Battery life and charging

The device is packed up with an in-built 6000 mAh battery. It is divided in two cells in the phone, each of them holds the capacity of 3000 mAh to charge faster. This distribution helps in weight balance and produces less heat than others. These cells take 6 to 7 hours of normal usage to drain and will take 3.5 hour to 4 hours to get fully drained while gaming. But yes as we above said the box is packed with a 65 W fast charger which charges up the battery in approx 1 hour. So, we should not expect much with the battery of a gaming phone. But this gives enough of it.

Now the additional features which makes this phone a beast.

The Air triggers these triggers add a star to this phone, we can assign functions to these triggers and can be used in gaming as well.

Double charging jacks the charging wire creates disturbance while gaming holding in the most famous position, but in this you can easily plug your cable in another jack that is given on the left side of the phone.

ROG RGB logo– this logo on the back can make you stand out in any crowd.

PROS:

  • Processor performance
  • Display
  • Design
  • Additional features
  • OS

CONS:

  • Cameras
  • Battery life
  • Bulky
  • Protective case
Conclusion

This phone is especially made for hardcore gamers. Anyone can easily buy this phone but not everyone will be able to use it at its limits. These hardcore gamers can only do this. Users who are thinking of buying it for camera purposes, should go for any other choice available. Otherwise, the ASUS ROG phone 5 is considered a beast and it is. So yes if you are a gamer go and buy this beast.
